Black and White

 The Lancaster Expressions

Moonlight Bluegrass practicing before the concert tonight.

This young man from West Union Ohio is a Keim, who is the son of Mose Keim, who is the son of Jonas Arie who lived west of Maysville Ohio in the late 1950's. We lived in the same neighborhood for a few years. Mose Keim is the same age my oldest brother Henry is. They both attended Fredericksburg School. I think they were in the same grade.

This couple is from the Winesburg Ohio area, the parents of Lue Shetler.

Future Mothers

 Sisters with their dolls.

It seems Mennonite and Amish little girls are trained by example to be future mothers. And by far the majority of these little girls will become mothers to the future generation.
I seldom wanted to pretend I am a mother and play with dolls, but instead I took to the sewing machine and made doll clothes for my younger sisters.

The Breakdown

When old people like Paul and Anne Miller's vehicle quits working on Estrada Street, there is only one thing to do and that is get help.

So they put one person in the vehicle to control the steering and these three got their exercise by pushing. The pushing started about two houses in from Beneva on Estrada. So they pushed the length of Estrada, turned left on Kaufman until the dead end, then turned left and into Pauls' driveway.

I don't know why I was so surprised to see an Amish man behind the wheel, but I was surprised. I am sure he didn't push the pedal or the brakes. He just steered.

Here is a better picture of him.

Levi Esh's House Auction

Today was Levi and Rebecca Esh's house auction on Estrada Street.

 Amos Fisher giving instructions/directions, whatever...

John Yoder a Realtor was in charge of the sound system and also took the bids.

I don't know the Mennonite lady but Levi & Rebecca Esh sit in the middle and Anna Fisher is on the right.

We all wanted to know who buys the house and at what price? The new owners are Dave and Mary Glick at the $261,000.

The Little Children

 Pennsylvania Children

Ohio Children
There is another twin who didn't want her picture taken, so she slipped behind her grandmother's back. Both of the twin girls were cuddling their dolls.
The boy's eyes just glowed like a light bulb.
Rube Andy from Holmesville Ohio is the great-grandfather to these children.

Tuesday is Bus Day

Yesterday one bus, the Melard from Lancaster Pennsylvania left with passengers going north. Today six buses came in with passengers.

Waiting for the first of three Pioneer buses to come in.

These little children ran for Grandpa. I was told Grandpa is Coon Dan's Crist's Eddie.

Talking with John Schlabach, the driver.

Geauga County's time to enjoy the Florida sunshine. Their big time is the last of February and through March.

Melard Bus Leaves

 Sharing a drink.

 The little brother.
When he first came walking into the parking lot he was eating a banana.
Next he needed the pacifier and by the time they boarded the bus, he could hardly stay awake.

Nancy visiting with Katie Fisher and Betty Esh.

A welcoming hug

 Those last minutes...

And the "Good byes."

Saturday Morning Photos

Siblings, sister still lives in Kansas and Enos moved to Sarasota.

 Ohio men

Whenever a Pioneer Bus comes in loaded with passengers, the Red Shirt men jump into action. In no time at all these men have the luggage unloaded.  Anne helps the passengers step off the bus and everybody goes their merry way.
And here is the evidence of getting on their merry way.

Jacob Miller grandson of Steff Keima Paul, who is in the background.

One of these is young Jacob's grandma, although I don't know which one.

Overall life is good and happy and healthy, with lots of sunshine in Florida.

Benefit Dinner at the Park

Tonight's Benefit Dinner was funds to help with the upkeep of the Pinecraft Park. This specific Benefit Dinner has always been a huge success.

My conclusion of the success is:
1. The Snow Birds claim this specific park as "Our Park" and so let's help with the upkeep.
2. We like Fish Fries and Hush Puppies, plus Cole Slaw and Baked Beans.
3. February is the busiest month of the year, with the largest crowd of people.

 Deep frying the fish.

Dessert is pie or cake with ice cream. Tonight they served 100 pies.

Enjoying the food.

A true help-meet.

After the food comes more play. Looks like two sets of twins. The other twin boy is behind the girl in yellow.

 Mary Ellen and Esta,
daughters of Elmer and Katie Troyer.
My sisters did Rumspringa with these girls.

Susie and Elizabeth,
daughters of Dan & Emma Schlabach.
Back in the late 1960's we were neighbors.
These sisters have the genes to live to be a hundred years old.
They are not there yet.
They are not even pushing the century mark.
