Pinecraft Florida - 2015 Calendar

 The 2015 Pinecraft Calendar theme for the coming year is "Children". I chose this picture for the cover, because without young parents visiting Pinecraft, there would be no little children. There would be no children to play in the park, whether it is playing basketball, or taking her baby doll for a walk. The March picture is Daddy taking a walk with his two little children on the banks of the Phillippi Creek. 

The February, September, October and December months children with their parents are fixing to return home. Vacation is over and it is time to return to normal.  

 

Both Yoder's Amish Village and Der Dutchman's in Sarasota carry the calendar in their gift shops. I also have them on the back of my bike.

Sunday's Bike Ride

 I went biking to see what is in the backside of homes, buildings and streets. For some reason I love the backside of life. Maybe it is because I am dyslexic. I don't know if I still am a dyslexia because there is nobody around to correct me when I see and say things  from right to left.  Anyway this is what I found.

 The Spanish Moss swinging high and swinging low. They just twisted and turned with the wind.

 The Backside of Pinecraft. This is the place where flowers look over the fence and chats with the vines crawling up the wall. This is the place where the fox trots and the Bobcat travels from east to west and back aagain.

A New Season

 Herbert painting new murals.

 These two are new murals painted on the garage doors facing Bahia Vista.

This is a photo of the old mural. 

The previous mural painter got too old and feeble to continue. Each time I saw the paint chips chipping off, I wondered what is going to happen to this wall for it is so much a part of Yoder's Village in Pinecraft.  I was pleasantly surprised when I returned from my visit to Ohio to see this New Season on the east wall.

Pinecraft Shoe and Repair

 Less than a week ago a new shop opened in the neighborhood, Pinecraft Shoe & Repair. It is located on Bahia Vista, next door to The Village Cupboard. 

 The owners are Lee & Linda Keim. It has been their dream for years to open up a Shoe Shop in Pinecraft.

 They sell more than just shoes. They have a selection of ice cream freezers and the Berlin Flyer Wagons. I assume the chair is to sit down and try on the new cowboy boots or good sturdy waterproof work shoe.

I took a peep into the back room where the leather sewing machine is, to do repairs.

 In another section of the store they have a display of real leather goods, made by Coblentz Leather from Holmes County Ohio.

People of Today

 Marvin Mast one of the Pioneer bus drivers was the first person off the bus. There were quite a number of passengers today. 

 I am assuming he is going home. He walked with a purpose and turned in on a side street and disappeared into a house.

 One piece of luggage wasn't picked up when the bus came in. So Dawn contacted the phone number on the identity tag took it to their home for safekeeping.

I love this, Daddy playing shuffleboard with his daughter and her friends.

Produce Shopping

 Every Saturday I have to see to it that I have enough food in the house to do until Monday. So this morning I went produce shopping at Yoder's Fresh Market. I remembered the Scuppernong grapes were in season last year in August. (Scuppernong is a Muscadine grape.) So this morning I looked around and sure enough, they are in. I bought some, enough for the weekend. I spoke so highly of them that two other customers decided to buy and try them out.  Right next to these grapes was a box of strange looking fruit from Asia, the Rambutan. One of the workers gave us each a sample. The only flavor I can get out of them is just a sweet taste. Nothing more, nothing less. 

 

 

I bought a few.

I allso bought a bag oof peanuts for the squirrels in the park. I don't have to sweet talk them into eating my peanuts.They come running when I arrive at the park.

The New Meatball Sandwich

 Ever since last week I wanted to have a taste of the Meatball Sandwich at Emma's Pizza Shop in Pinecraft. I had to wait until today because I had food in the fridge that needed to be used up before it spoils. So today was my day.

 I ordered a sandwich and took it home.

 One look at the size and I knew I have enough for two meals, instead of just one.

This half has four meatballs, so that means the whole sandwich has at least eight meatballs, with a lot of rich tomato sauce and the best of cheese. 

Emma has a good variation of pizza to choose from and also a number of sandwiches. Lamar Bontrager is digging into a hamburger.

Dublin Parochial School

 A couple of weeks ago Sister Anna and I stopped in at Dublin Parochial School where we were students 50 years ago. Very little has changed since then, at least not on the outside.

 The Girls back-house was upgraded a little bit. It now has real toilet seats with lids.

 

The little horse barn is just where it has always been. Ben Hershberger a former classmate, who is now a bishop in Holmesville  used to practice his preaching skills in this little barn. He would perform the wedding ceremony of more than one couple.  I was never out in the barn during his play weddings for fear I would be a bride.
